About · Electronic engineer

Kevin O’Flannagain

I’m an electronic engineer working on smart-building systems at Hereworks. I studied at UCD, where I was lead programmer on a beam-steering research project with Huawei, then helped build autonomous robot prototypes at Analytical Robotics. At home I like making things that connect software to the physical world.

What I’m working on

DublinData

Dublin’s public data on one map.

Bikes, scooters, river and tide gauges, weather and air quality across the city. Every reading keeps the time it was taken and where it came from.

Robots, optics, and a display I soldered by hand

Work from Analytical Robotics and UCD, plus the personal build that taught me the most about timing and wiring.

Three autonomous robot prototypes with exposed electronics

Analytical Robotics2020

Autonomous robot prototypes

Two generations of a multi-robot prototype: UWB localisation, a Jetson Nano and Teensy 4.1 on board, and a second aluminium frame with four 250 W motors.

Optical components and fibre cables on an optical bench

Optical systems research

Lead programmer on beam-steering algorithms in 2018, then beam shaping and optoelectronic switching in Zemax in 2019.

10×10 LED matrix + Pong

One hundred hand-soldered LEDs, multiplexed into a display that plays Pong with two physical controls.
